It takes a village

We are making history as we prepare to unveil the Gate of the Exonerated at the Northern edge of Central Park, along 110th Street, at Harlem’s gateway. This will be the first naming of a Gate since the park’s founding, more than 150 years. More significantly this momentous dedication represents all who have been Wrongfully Incarcerated and Exonerated, everywhere. This Gate of the Exonerated is directly inspired by the tragic experiences of the Exonerated 5; Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, Anton McCray and Korey Wise. As well as the relentless collective effortsof Sharonne Salaam, Mother of Yusef Salaam along with Community Board 10 of Manhattan and from the previous Manhattan Borough President, today Honorable Council Member Gale Brewer.

The rest is history with Community Board 10 and it’s dedicated Parks and Recreation Committee leading the way with Ms. Sharonne Salaam and Ms. Stephanie McGraw of W.A.R.M who engaged the Board after initially meeting with the Central Park Conservancy Parks Department and the Manhattan Borough President approximately two years ago.

We simply want to say thank you to all those who given there time energy, relentless care and agape Love.

Beginning with: Yusef Salaam, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana, Anton McCray, Korey Wise and Sharonne Salaam

We want to thank Community Board 10, Justice 4 the Wrongfully Incarcerated, NY Parks Dept., Central Park Conservancy, NYPL, Harlem NYC Educators, Office of the Borough President, All the Community Boards, Innocence Project, Nation of Islam, Harlem Network News, the Central Park 5/Exonerated 5 and their families.
